How Strikethrough Text Works

The strikethrough effect is created using Unicode combining diacritical marks – special characters that overlay the previous character. Each letter of your text is followed by a combining character that draws a line through it. This means the strikethrough is part of the text itself, not a formatting setting, so it travels with the text wherever you paste it.

Standard Strikethrough: Uses U+0336 (Combining Long Stroke Overlay) – produces a single line through each character: t̶.
Double Strikethrough: Uses U+0337 (Combining Short Solidus Overlay) – produces two overlapping lines: t̷.
